I am just a Latina chica, snapping her camera breaking all the rules to convey the feelings of the heart.
My name is Leyla and I am a Latina Lifestyle photographer in Santa Cruz, California. I specialize in documentary families, couples, children, and women empowerment moments. My Film Studies background set a foundation for my “documentative approach” but it is my experiences as a Salvadorean woman walking this earth that fully allow me to dig deep and connect authentically with each story I tell. My photographs are filled with heartfelt emotions: Mostly happiness and love, but also sadness, loss, and courage. My goal is to capture raw feelings and not just a pretty picture. I break the rules and let everyone dance to the beat of their own song. I strive to capture the little mundane details in life that will soon be a distant memory in our hearts. My camera has been by my side since I was 17 and It is the tool I’ve used to allow my voice to be heard and to feel seen. My energy isn’t always understood but in still photographs, I share my deep feelings with the world, or maybe just you!
All of my experiences have led me to become a full-time Wife, Mother, and Photographer. Today I share my work and heart with you and feel incredibly humbled to be able to tell your authentic stories!

Somewhere along the way, while faced with the loss of loved ones, I learned to let go of this image of “perfection.” I dance to the beat of my own music and respectfully decline negative influences into my life, art, and vision. I strive to tell life stories that are beautifully connected and full of human emotions. I trust in living in the moment and believe some of the best moments fall outside of the rules of technicality. I hope for my stories to always be honest, vibrant, and Chingonas!
